Why Some Courts Require In-Person Anger Management

Most courts accept online or remote anger management programs, but certain judges and courts specifically order defendants to attend in-person classes. This is particularly common at Bayonne Municipal Court, West New York Municipal Court, and some other Hudson County courts. When your court order says “in-person,” online programs will not satisfy the requirement โ€” you need face-to-face sessions.

Judges who require in-person attendance believe:

  • Face-to-face interaction provides stronger accountability than screen-based learning
  • Facilitators can observe body language, engagement, and genuine participation
  • In-person attendance demonstrates a higher level of commitment and seriousness
  • The inconvenience of attending in person is itself part of the accountability process
  • Real-time discussion and feedback are more impactful than asynchronous online modules

Courts That May Require In-Person Anger Management

The following courts in Hudson County have been known to order in-person anger management classes rather than accepting online alternatives. If you’ve been ordered by one of these courts to attend “in-person” sessions, our Jersey City program satisfies that requirement:

Bayonne Municipal Court IN-PERSON ORDERS

Bayonne judges frequently specify in-person anger management in court orders, particularly for domestic violence-related charges, assault cases, and repeat offenders.

๐Ÿ“ 630 Avenue C, Bayonne, NJ 07002

West New York Municipal Court IN-PERSON ORDERS

West New York court regularly orders in-person classes for defendants, especially in cases involving conflict, harassment, or violations of restraining orders.

๐Ÿ“ 428 60th Street, West New York, NJ 07093

Union City Municipal Court MAY REQUIRE

Some Union City judges prefer in-person attendance depending on the nature of the offense and the defendant’s history.

๐Ÿ“ 3715 Palisade Avenue, Union City, NJ 07087

North Bergen Municipal Court MAY REQUIRE

North Bergen may order in-person classes in certain cases, particularly where the judge wants to ensure direct accountability.

๐Ÿ“ 4233 Kennedy Boulevard, North Bergen, NJ 07047

๐Ÿ“‹ Check Your Court Order Carefully

Review the exact language of your court order. If it specifies “in-person” classes, “live” sessions, or “face-to-face” anger management, you must attend in-person sessions โ€” online programs will not satisfy the requirement. If your order doesn’t specify, our online private sessions may be an option. Call 201-205-3201 if you’re unsure what your court requires.

Frequently Asked Questions: In-Person Anger Management

How do I know if my court requires in-person anger management? +

Review your court order carefully. If it specifies “in-person,” “live,” “face-to-face,” or “must attend in person,” you need in-person sessions โ€” online won’t satisfy the requirement. If your order simply says “anger management” without specifying format, online private sessions are typically accepted. Bayonne and West New York courts commonly require in-person attendance. If you’re unsure, call us at 201-205-3201 or ask your attorney.

Why is the first session 3 hours long? +

Because in-person sessions are only available on reserved weekends with limited availability, the 3-hour first session allows you to complete the equivalent of 3 sessions at once. This intensive format helps you make meaningful progress quickly while accommodating scheduling constraints. You’ll cover foundational concepts including trigger identification, the anger cycle, and initial coping strategies โ€” all in one session.

What if I need to reschedule an in-person session? +

Contact us as soon as possible if you need to reschedule. Because sessions are held on limited reserved weekends, rescheduling is subject to availability. Deposits are non-refundable but can be applied to a future session if you reschedule with adequate advance notice. Last-minute cancellations may not be able to be accommodated before your court deadline.

Is the deposit refundable? +

The $150 deposit to reserve your space is non-refundable. However, if you need to reschedule with adequate notice, the deposit can be applied to your rescheduled session. This policy exists because we hold limited weekend spots โ€” when you reserve, that spot is unavailable to others.

How many sessions will I need? +

The number of sessions depends on your court order. Most orders require 10-12 sessions. Check your court documentation for the specific number required. Our payment structure accommodates both 10-session programs ($400 total) and 12-session programs ($450 total).

Do you provide documentation for the court? +

Yes. You’ll receive attendance verification after each session, which you can provide to your attorney or probation officer to demonstrate ongoing compliance. Upon completing all required sessions, you’ll receive an official completion certificate that satisfies your court requirement.

Can I switch from in-person to online if my court allows it? +

If you initially enrolled in in-person sessions but later confirm that your court accepts online programs, we can discuss transitioning to our online private sessions. However, deposits paid for in-person sessions may not be fully transferable. We recommend confirming your court’s requirements before enrolling.
