Anger Management for Divorce — Built by a Man Who Practiced It, Treats It, and Survived His Own
Going through a divorce — or trying to rebuild after one — you’re fighting two wars at once: a legal process you don’t understand, and an emotional demolition nobody prepared you for. This is the only program we know of built to handle both — created by a retired New Jersey divorce lawyer who managed fifty or more divorces at a time, became a certified anger management specialist, and went through his own divorce. Live one-on-one sessions. Completely private. Days, nights & weekends.
“There is almost nothing your divorce can do that I haven’t already seen a hundred times.“
At the height of my practice as a New Jersey divorce lawyer, I managed fifty or more active divorces at a time — every phase, every filing, every courtroom, and every legal and emotional situation a divorce can produce: contested custody, restraining orders, hidden assets, businesses divided, houses lost, children caught in the middle, and two people who once loved each other learning to fight like enemies. For over fifteen years, I stood in New Jersey’s family courtrooms and watched exactly what this process does to human beings — the fear of the unknown, the waiting that feels like punishment, and the anger that surprises even the calmest people.
Then I became a certified anger management specialist — because after a career watching what divorce anger costs people (their cases, their custody standing, their money, their children’s memories of them), treating that anger became the work I believe in most. The anger your divorce is producing isn’t a character flaw. It’s the predictable response to the most stressful legal process a person can experience — and it is manageable, with the right tools, from someone who knows exactly where in the process you’re standing.
And I don’t only know divorce from the counsel table. I went through my own. I know what it feels like when it’s YOUR house, YOUR kids’ schedule, YOUR name on the papers — the 2 AM fear, the anger that shows up uninvited, the grief nobody warns you about. I rebuilt from mine. Helping people through theirs is what I rebuilt into. So when you sit down with me, you’re not getting theory. You’re getting the map from a man who has walked the territory a thousand times as the lawyer — and once, all the way through, as the client.
— Santo V. Artusa Jr., J.D., C.A.M.S.Director · Retired NJ Divorce & Criminal Lawyer · Certified Anger Management Specialist · Studied at Oxford University · Rutgers School of Law
Ordinary anger management treats triggers you can often avoid. Divorce is different: the trigger is your own life, running on a schedule you don’t control, managed by strangers, for months or years. Every certified letter spikes your pulse. Every delay feels deliberate. Every text from your ex is a potential landmine — and unlike a bad coworker, you can’t gray-rock the mother or father of your children. Add the highest financial stakes of your life, the fear of losing time with your kids, and a legal process that seems designed to confuse you — and you have the perfect anger machine. A program for divorce anger has to understand BOTH engines: the feelings AND the process producing them. That’s what this is.
⚠️ What Divorce Anger Costs — The Part Nobody Tells You
After fifteen years in those courtrooms, here is the honest truth: the angry party almost always pays for it. The furious text that becomes Exhibit A. The blowup at the exchange that becomes a certified incident. The voicemail played in court. Judges watch demeanor; custody evaluators write down everything; and opposing counsel PRAYS you’ll lose your temper, because your anger is their easiest evidence. Managing your anger during a divorce isn’t just self-care — it is case strategy, asset protection, and the single best thing you can do for how your children will remember this chapter.
Half of divorce anger is really fear wearing armor — fear of a process nobody explained. In this program, we walk the map together: what each stage generally involves, why it takes as long as it does, what’s normal to feel at each one, and how to stay regulated through it. (Educational only — your attorney handles your specific case strategy. I explain the map; your lawyer drives the car.)
Stage 1 — Filing & Being Served
The earthquake. Whether you filed or were served, this is when it becomes real — and when the first anger wave hits hardest. What’s normal here: shock, rage, the urge to “win” immediately. What we build: the first 30 days without a single regrettable text, call, or confrontation.
Stage 2 — Temporary Orders & The New Reality
Who stays in the house, who pays what, when you see the kids — decided fast, and it feels unfair to almost everyone. This is the stage of “how can they DO this?” anger. What we build: separating what’s temporary from what’s permanent, and staying composed while your lawyer fights the fights worth fighting.
Stage 3 — Discovery & The Long Middle
Documents, interrogatories, silence, delays. The stage nobody warns you about — where cases feel stalled for months and the waiting itself becomes the trigger. What we build: patience as strategy, routines that hold you steady, and understanding WHY the process moves the way it does (when you know the map, delay stops feeling like an attack).
Stage 4 — Custody & The Deepest Fears
If children are involved, this is where the real terror lives — and terror comes out as anger. What we build: regulation in the exact moments that get documented (exchanges, communications, evaluations), co-parenting communication that protects you on paper, and keeping your kids out of the crossfire — the thing you’ll be proudest of in ten years.
Stage 5 — Settlement or Trial
Where anger costs the most money. Settlements collapse over pride; trials get fed by fury. What we build: the settlement mindset — knowing the difference between fighting for your interests and fighting for the last word, and walking into any room (mediation, deposition, courtroom) as the composed party. Composed parties get better outcomes. I watched it for fifteen years.
Stage 6 — After: Rebuilding
The papers are signed and everyone assumes you’re fine — but the anger, grief, and identity loss often peak AFTER. Divorced and still furious at your ex? Still fighting through the kids? Still not sleeping? This stage is for you too — rebuilding is a skill, and it happens to be the one the Director knows personally.

Is this legal advice about my divorce?
No — and that line is absolute. Your attorney handles your case strategy; this program is educational and emotional-regulation support. What the Director’s legal career gives you is something different: he can explain how the process GENERALLY works and why, which removes the fear of the unknown — the fuel behind most divorce anger. The map, not the driving.
Will my spouse or their lawyer find out I’m doing this?
Not from us. Private pay means no insurance records, no diagnosis, no medical paper trail. And if it ever DID come up — voluntarily working on yourself during a divorce is something courts respect, not something that hurts you. Many clients’ own attorneys recommend it for exactly that reason.
I’m already divorced and still angry. Is this for me?
Completely — Stage 6 exists because post-divorce anger is real and common: the resentment that won’t fade, the co-parenting battles, the anger at yourself. Rebuilding after divorce is a skill, and it’s the one the Director knows most personally.
My ex provokes me constantly through texts and the kids. Can you help with that specifically?
It’s one of the core modules: co-parenting communication that stays clean on paper (assume every message gets read in court someday), the provocation filter, and exchange-day protocols. You can’t control your ex. You can become someone whose composure is provocation-proof — which, incidentally, drives provokers crazy.
Was the Director really a divorce lawyer?
Yes — a New Jersey divorce and criminal lawyer for over fifteen years, managing at his peak fifty or more active divorces at a time across every phase and situation imaginable, before retiring from practice and becoming a certified anger management specialist (C.A.M.S.). He also went through his own divorce. This program exists at the intersection of all three.
Is it court-accepted if my family matter requires anger management?
Yes — same-day enrollment letters and completion documentation with a 100% acceptance record across New Jersey courts, guaranteed.
