Anger Management for Couples & Families — Together, Separate, or Both
When the anger lives BETWEEN people — the arguments on repeat, the household walking on eggshells, the couple who loves each other and still can’t stop the fights — working on one person is only half the fix. NJAMG’s Couples & Family Programs work on the dynamic itself: joint sessions, private one-on-one sessions, or the structured combination of both — run the way a trained mediator structures resolution, by the only program in New Jersey built to do exactly that.
“Ask yourself honestly: who understands what’s truly at stake in your home — someone who has only ever discussed conflict in a quiet office… or someone who spent a career standing where conflict ENDS?“
I mediated disputes at the absolute height of tension — two people across a table with everything on the line: the house, the children, the savings, the future. Not talking about feelings in the abstract — negotiating the actual endings of actual families, in rooms where one wrong sentence blows up months of progress. I sat in divorce courtrooms for fifteen years watching couples who loved each other once, arriving at the place no couple believes they’ll reach. I know the exact road that leads there — every exit ramp they missed, every fight that hardened into a position, every conversation they postponed until it became a filing.
So when I work with a couple, I’m not guessing at the stakes. I’ve seen what losing looks like — up close, professionally, hundreds of times. And I’ve lived the other side too: married almost twenty years, children raised to adulthood, every season a real household weathers survived at my own kitchen table. The repeating argument, the money stress, the repair that finally holds — I don’t know these from a textbook. I know them from Tuesday nights.
That’s what sits across from you in this program: not judgment, and not theory — someone who has watched families reach the end, and knows precisely how to keep yours from ever seeing it. That’s why this program exists. That’s the work.

Director · Retired NJ Criminal & Divorce Lawyer · Mediator · Anger Management Specialist
Why no one else in New Jersey can run this program the way we do: it is founded and personally conducted by a retired New Jersey criminal and divorce lawyer turned anger management specialist — with years of professional mediation experience structuring exactly these conversations: two people, high emotion, real stakes. The together/separate/both format below isn’t borrowed from a counseling textbook. It’s the mediator’s caucus model — joint session, private caucuses, reconvene — refined across a legal career watching what actually moves two people from conflict to agreement, now applied to the fights happening in your kitchen. Marriage counselors don’t have it. Anger programs can’t do it.
And there’s a second half to the edge — the lived one. The Director isn’t advising marriage and family from a textbook: he has been married for nearly twenty years and raised children who are now adults — through every season a real household weathers: the toddler years and the teenage years, the money pressures, the career pressures, the arguments that repeat and the repairs that finally hold. And he’s from here — raised between New York and New Jersey, fluent in the cultures, the families, the pace and the pressure of this exact place. When you sit down with him, you’re not explaining your world to an outsider. He’s lived your world — professionally in the courtroom, and personally at his own kitchen table. That is the edge. You bring the situation; we bring the edge.
Together
Joint sessions with both of you in the room (or on the video call) — ground rules set, both sides heard, the fight pattern mapped in real time, and the new communication rules practiced live, with a professional structuring every minute.
Together + Separate
The mediator’s caucus model — our signature. Joint sessions to work the dynamic, private one-on-one sessions where each person does their own work and says what they’d never say in the room — then back together, further along than either could get alone.
Separate Tracks
Parallel private programs — same facilitator, same playbook, never in the room together. For couples not ready for joint sessions, high-tension households, or where circumstances require separation.
💑 Couples
Married, engaged, together, separated, or trying again — the couples whose arguments escalate past the issue, who repeat the same fight with new words, who love each other between the blowups and are exhausted by them. Including couples rebuilding after infidelity — where one works the betrayal anger, the other works the fallout, separately and then together.
👨👦 Parent & Teen
The household screaming matches, the son or daughter with the temper, the parent who hears their own anger coming out of their kid’s mouth. Sessions with the teen, with the parent, and together — because a teenager’s anger is almost never only the teenager’s.
👪 Families
Adult siblings who can’t be in the same room, multi-generation households under one roof and one pressure cooker, family businesses where the business meeting becomes the family fight. Structured, facilitated, resolved — engagement scoped to your family’s actual situation.
Marriage counseling is valuable — for marriage problems. But when the presenting problem is anger — escalation, blowups, the fight pattern itself — you need the program built for exactly that:
And when a couple genuinely needs clinical therapy — trauma work, mental health treatment, marriage counseling proper — we say so honestly and point you to licensed clinicians. Knowing the line is part of the professionalism.
Couples — Core
The full framework: joint mapping, private caucus sessions, fair-fighting rules, and your written household plan — signed by both.
Couples — Comprehensive
Everything in Core plus deeper individual tracks, rebuilding work (including post-infidelity), and a follow-up session after 30 days to lock the changes in.
Family / Parent & Teen
Every family configuration is different — sessions, participants, and structure are scoped on a brief call with the Director. Engagements typically begin at $795.
Private pay only — no insurance, no diagnosis, nothing on any record. Days, nights & weekends · live video, phone, or in person by appointment · English, Spanish, Arabic & Portuguese.
How It Works
1. Text “COUPLE” with your name — or call — and tell us briefly what’s happening. 2. A short private conversation with the Director scopes your structure: together, separate, or the combination. 3. Both of you complete confidential individual assessments — your answers are never shared with each other. 4. Sessions begin as soon as this week, scheduled around both of your lives. 5. You finish with skills, a changed pattern, and a written household plan you both built.
An Honest Note on Safety
Joint sessions are powerful for couples and families in conflict — and they are not appropriate everywhere. Where there is an active restraining order, ongoing abuse, or fear of a partner, joint work is not conducted; we structure separate tracks or individual programs instead, and our intake screens for this in every couples engagement. This standard protects everyone in the room — and it is non-negotiable.
Stop Having the Same Fight
Private · Structured · Weeks, not years · Weekly couples intake spots are limited — the Director conducts every session personally
Picking up the phone about your marriage or your family is hard — most of our couples clients tell us the first message was the hardest step. So take the easier one: tell us briefly what’s happening below, and the Director personally replies — by text or email, whichever you choose. Completely confidential. No pressure, no obligation.
My partner won’t come — can I start alone?
Yes — and it’s often how the whole thing begins. One person starts on a private track; partners frequently join once they see the changes (and once they learn they’d get their own private sessions, not an ambush). Your individual program converts into the couples structure whenever they’re ready.
Will you tell my partner what I say in my private sessions?
No. Private caucus sessions are exactly that — private. What moves into the joint room is skills and agreements, not confessions. This confidentiality is precisely what makes the caucus model work; it’s how mediators have run high-stakes resolution for decades.
Is this marriage counseling or therapy?
No — it’s anger management and communication education for the two of you, focused on the escalation pattern: triggers, de-escalation, fair-fighting structure, and a written plan. No diagnosis, no insurance, nothing on any medical record. Where clinical therapy is what’s actually needed, we’ll say so honestly and point you to licensed clinicians.
One of us has a court matter — does this count?
Where a participant has a court requirement, we confirm the requirement first (text a photo of the paperwork — we read it at no charge) and structure the program so the required documentation is properly issued alongside the couples work. Court letters have a 100% acceptance record.
How fast can we start — and finish?
Enrollment takes minutes and sessions can begin this week. Core completes in about 3–4 weeks; accelerated scheduling is available when circumstances call for it.
