NJAMG is a private program and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any court, the New Jersey Judiciary, the New York State Unified Court System, the Connecticut Judicial Branch, DCPP, ACS, any county Department of Social Services, or DCF. NJAMG is psychoeducational and is not psychotherapy, medical or mental health treatment, or a batterers intervention program, and does not give legal advice; whether a particular program satisfies a particular order is a question for your attorney. Court information is provided for convenience and may change.

Anger Management at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division — Where the Requirement Comes From

Sussex County’s Family Division at the Judicial Center in Newton is the smallest in the Morris/Sussex vicinage, and its family docket — FV matters from Vernon and Hopatcong, FD custody cases, DCPP matters from the Sussex local office — is heard by judges who know the county’s families and its providers. A rural county has fewer anger management options within driving distance, and Sussex parents have historically driven to Morristown or beyond to find one a judge would accept.

NJAMG removes the drive. The program is delivered entirely by live one-on-one video, seven days a week, on a curriculum built for the Sussex parent’s case, and it produces the documentation Newton’s Family Division accepts: an enrollment letter, progress reports, a Certificate of Completion, and a two-to-three-page Completion Letter written by a retired New Jersey family and criminal law attorney. For a parent in Wantage or Vernon working back to unsupervised time, the courthouse gets a document it recognizes and the parent never leaves the county.

The Four Ways a New Jersey Parent Is Required to Complete Anger Management — and Why Each One Reads the Proof

For a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division, the requirement usually arrives one of four ways. Each has a different reader and the same standard: a program that can be verified.

Ordered under a restraining order

Under the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act, an FRO (N.J.S.A. 2C:25-29(b)) can require the defendant to attend a professional domestic violence program from a private source, undergo a psychiatric evaluation, and accept supervised parenting time and a risk assessment. Anger management is what judges and Family Division staff most often mean when they write ‘a program’ into the parenting-time paragraph.

Agreed in a consent order or civil restraints

The most common New Jersey resolution of a TRO between co-parents: the plaintiff dismisses the FV complaint and the parties enter a consent order with civil restraints in the FM or FD docket — no contact except about the children, a parenting schedule, and, very often, the defendant’s completion of an anger management program by a date certain with proof to the other side.

Required by DCPP

After a referral, DCPP investigates and closes with a finding — unfounded, not established, established, or substantiated — and, in many cases, a service plan. ‘Anger management’ is one of the services DCPP most often lists; in FN litigation the Deputy Attorney General, the Law Guardian, and the judge track compliance at every review hearing, and reunification or the end of supervision turns on it.

Recommended by an evaluator

In contested custody, a custody neutral assessment, a best-interest evaluation, or a risk assessment in the FV docket routinely recommends anger management for one parent as a condition of expanded parenting time. Judges adopt those recommendations into orders; the evaluator wants proof the program was real.

New Jersey custody decisions are governed by the best-interest factors in N.J.S.A. 9:2-4(c), which expressly include ‘the history of domestic violence, if any’ and each parent’s fitness. A parent whose parenting time was suspended or supervised under an FRO (N.J.S.A. 2C:25-29(b)(3)) or after a DCPP finding gets it back by showing changed circumstances — and a completed, documented program is the changed circumstance courts most readily accept. Family Division staff conduct risk assessments before parenting time is set in FV matters; DCPP service plans and FN review hearings run on documented compliance; and civil-restraints consent orders are enforced by motion in the FM or FD docket. For a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division, that is the framework the court will apply.

The Generic Certificate vs. the Lawyer-Written Completion Letter

Look at the certificate on the left. It is what most ‘court-approved online anger management’ produces in a weekend: a name, a date, a course title, and nothing a New Jersey judge, evaluator, or DCPP caseworker can check. For a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division, that certificate is the difference between a motion granted and a motion denied. On the right is what NJAMG produces — and why our program is the one family lawyers, probation officers, and psychologists in New Jersey recommend.

A typical generic online anger management certificate — no session dates, no hours, no instructor credentials, no curriculum, no phone number — the kind often questioned or denied when a family court, DCPP, ACS, CPS, or DCF is involvedA typical generic online certificate: name, date, course title, signature. Nothing for a judge, an evaluator, or a caseworker to verify — and often denied when a court or agency is involved.

What NJAMG’s Completion Letter Contains

  1. Who you are and why you enrolled — the order, consent order, civil restraints, DCPP plan, or evaluator recommendation, cited by docket and date.
  2. The assessment — what the instructor found about the incident, the pattern, and the family situation, in professional language the court can rely on.
  3. The curriculum — the customized lessons and exercises, the REBT and CBT methods used, and why they were chosen for this parent and this case.
  4. Every session by date and length — three to sixteen live one-on-one video sessions, with total hours.
  5. Your engagement — attendance, preparation, candor, and the work done between sessions.
  6. The change the instructor observed — stated as a professional opinion by a certified anger management clinician.
  7. Credentials and verification — Santo V. Artusa Jr., J.D., C.A.M.T., retired New Jersey family and criminal law attorney; (201) 205-3201 for the Family Part.
New Jersey judges sometimes order a batterers intervention program (BIP) rather than anger management — usually after a finding of a pattern of coercive control. NJAMG is not a BIP; if your order says ‘batterers intervention,’ we will tell you at intake and help you confirm with your attorney what the court actually requires. For ‘anger management,’ ‘a domestic violence program,’ ‘a program addressing anger,’ or a DCPP service-plan entry, our documentation has been accepted in every New Jersey vicinage since 2012. We check the language for a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division at intake.

Live, One-on-One, Customized Per Client: How the Program Is Built for Sussex County

The program begins with an assessment: the incident behind the order, the relationship, the children, the schedule, and what the Family Part has said it needs to see. From that the instructor writes customized lessons and exercises grounded in REBT and CBT — de-escalation at exchanges, communication through a co-parenting app or under a no-contact rule, conflict in front of children, the specific pattern that produced the order — and works through them in live, private, one-on-one video sessions with the same instructor, three to sixteen depending on what the order, the agreement, or the DCPP caseworker requires, scheduled seven days a week around parenting time and work.

For a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division, the result is a change the parent can describe in court and a two-to-three-page Completion Letter that describes it for them.

More Than Anger Management: Taught by Someone Who Knows the Courtroom and the Rebuilding

The instructor for a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division is the same person who writes the Completion Letter: a retired New Jersey family and criminal law attorney, certified anger management clinician, family mediator recognized in Best Lawyers in America, and a divorced father of two who rebuilt. He has read hundreds of these files from the lawyer’s side of the table and knows what a judge at the Family Part needs to see; he has lived the other side and knows what a parent needs to hear. Resilience, rebuilding, fatherhood and motherhood on a court’s schedule, respect, determination, a wider vantage point — taught one on one, not from a slide deck.

Recommended by the People Who Read the Proof

NJAMG is frequently recommended by family lawyers, probation officers, psychologists, and court personnel in New Jersey — not because of marketing, but because our documentation has never been rejected and our clients show up to the next hearing changed. Custody evaluators quote the Completion Letter in updated reports; parenting coordinators accept it as proof; DCPP caseworkers note it as compliance; and the progress our clients make in the sessions is regularly praised by the judges, evaluators, and even the opposing counsel who read the letter for a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division.

Proof of Enrollment, Progress, and Completion — Addressed the Way the Order Directs

Proof of enrollment on day one; proof of completion on the last day; whatever the case needs in between. For a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division, the file is: an enrollment letter naming the program length, start date, and instructor; progress reports on request; a Certificate of Completion with a verification number; and a Completion Letter of two to three pages describing the assessment, the curriculum, each session by date, the engagement, and the change — signed by a retired New Jersey family and criminal law attorney, with a phone number the Family Part, the DCPP caseworker, or an evaluator can call.

Court Acceptance Guarantee: accepted or refunded. Available under either of our names.

Finish before the deadline, and keep the enrollment letter. The Family Part reviews compliance on a date, not on intentions. The enrollment letter shows good faith at any interim hearing; the Completion Letter closes the issue — but only if it is in the file for a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division before the review.

From the Order to the Letter

  1. Text ENROLL NJ to 201-205-3201 with a photo of the order, the consent order, the DCPP service plan, or the evaluator’s recommendation.
  2. Same-day intake and assessment. We read the language — session count or hours, provider standard, deadline, recipients — and if it requires a BIP or a licensed clinical provider we tell you before you pay.
  3. Same-day enrollment letter to you and your attorney, for the judge, the DCPP caseworker, or the other side.
  4. Your custom course: lessons written from the assessment; live one-on-one video sessions with the same instructor, seven days a week; progress reports whenever someone needs one.
  5. Certificate of Completion and the two-to-three-page Completion Letter the day you finish — addressed as the order directs, before the deadline, verifiable by phone.
No Judgment Zone

No Judgment. No Group. One Clear Plan.

You will not sit in a circle in New Jersey and be told what you are. For a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division, you will work privately with one instructor — a retired family and criminal law attorney who spent fifteen years beside parents at the Family Part and rebuilt his own family after a divorce — on a plan built around your order, your schedule, and your children. Discreet, professional, and documented for the court.

New Jersey Family Court Anger Management Questions We Get

Is NJAMG a batterers intervention program?

No. A BIP (New York’s ‘batterer’s education program,’ Connecticut’s FVEP/EXPLORE/EVOLVE, New Jersey’s court-ordered BIP) is a long, group-based, court-contracted program ordered for a pattern of coercive control. NJAMG is a private, one-on-one, psychoeducational anger management program — what the Family Part orders, agrees to, or DCPP recommends when the word is ‘anger management’ or ‘a program addressing anger.’ If your order requires a BIP, we tell you at intake for a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division.

Who writes the Completion Letter, and what is in it?

Our executive — Santo V. Artusa Jr., J.D., C.A.M.T., a retired New Jersey family and criminal law attorney, former public defender, family mediator recognized in Best Lawyers in America, and certified anger management clinician — who is also the instructor for every session. The letter runs two to three pages and describes why you enrolled, the assessment, the customized curriculum and methods, every live session by date and length, your engagement, the change he observed, and his credentials and phone number for the Family Part.

Will the Family Part accept it?

Yes — our documentation has been accepted in every New Jersey vicinage, in New York Family and Supreme Courts and by ACS and county CPS offices, and at every Connecticut family court since 2012, and our Court Acceptance Guarantee refunds your fee if the Family Part will not accept it for a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division. The exception is an order that requires a BIP or a licensed clinical evaluation, which we identify at intake.

Is this therapy?

No. NJAMG is psychoeducational — assessment, customized lessons grounded in REBT and CBT, and private one-on-one sessions with a certified anger management clinician. It is not psychotherapy or clinical treatment, and the letter says so. If the order for a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division requires a licensed clinical evaluation, we tell you at intake.

Is the program available in Spanish?

Yes. For a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division, the assessment, lessons, sessions, and every document — including the Completion Letter to the Family Part — are available in Spanish.

Can I start before my hearing?

Yes, and it is the point. Enroll by text, hold the assessment this week, and hand your attorney an enrollment letter for the next date. For a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division, a judge who sees a program already underway reads the case differently.

What does ‘customized per client’ actually mean?

For a parent with a case at Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division, every enrollee starts with an assessment, and the instructor writes the lessons and exercises from it: the incident, the relationship, the children’s ages and schedule, the way conflict has actually happened, and what the Family Part or the evaluator said it needs to see. Sessions are one on one with the same instructor throughout. The Completion Letter describes the curriculum you actually completed — which is why it reads like evidence.
