Deferred Disposition at Pasadena Municipal Court: The Anger Management Program Pasadena Defendants Start Before Court
This page is for anyone with a case at Pasadena Municipal Court — ordered to take a class, hoping to be offered a deferral, or simply wanting to show up prepared. It explains how deferred disposition works in Texas, what the judge is looking for, and how a live, one-on-one anger management program that started in New Jersey in 2012 became one of the most-trusted court programs in the country.
Pasadena Municipal Court — Anger Management, Court-Ordered or Proactive
Short version: Pasadena Municipal Court handled 47,170 new cases in fiscal year 2024. For the Class C assault, threat, and disorderly conduct cases on that docket, the judge’s most common resolution is a deferred disposition with a class requirement. NJAMG delivers the class live and one on one, any day of the week, with lessons built around your case and your court order, an enrollment letter the day you sign up, and completion documents the court accepts or your money back. Pasadena and the Pasadena Municipal Court Docket
Pasadena is the second-largest city in Harris County, and per person its municipal court is one of the busiest in Texas: 47,170 new cases in fiscal year 2024 — a filing rate roughly a third higher than Houston’s own court next door. The court operates out of the Shaw Avenue complex in the center of the city.
This is a shift-work city. The refineries and chemical plants along the Ship Channel run around the clock, and the cases we see from Pasadena look like it: an argument at the end of a twelve-hour turnaround, a dispute with a neighbor over a truck in the driveway, a family disagreement that a patrol officer classified as assault by contact. About seven in ten residents are Hispanic or Latino, and a large share of our Pasadena clients prefer to do the entire program in Spanish.
A Class C assault conviction is a problem for a TWIC card, a plant badge, or a contractor’s background check. Deferred disposition avoids the conviction, and a Pasadena judge will generally want an anger management class completed before the deferral closes. Starting before your court date means the condition is already underway when it is imposed.
The Officer Had to Write Something Down
When officers respond to a disturbance in Pasadena, someone usually leaves with paper. Texas gives them a Class C category broad enough to fit almost any confrontation: assault by contact, assault by threat, disorderly conduct. The citation is not a finding that you are dangerous or that you have an anger problem. It is a decision that this incident belonged in Pasadena Municipal Court rather than nowhere at all. What happens next is up to you, your attorney if you have one, and the judge.
Completing anger management in that situation is not an admission of anything. It is the fastest, most reliable way to show Pasadena Municipal Court that you are taking the case seriously, satisfy the judge’s deferred-disposition condition, and get the whole thing dismissed. We know because our founder spent fifteen years standing next to defendants in exactly this position, and he built the program to get them through it.

How a Class C Case at Pasadena Municipal Court Turns Into an Anger Management Order
Three Texas statutes account for almost every anger-related case at Pasadena Municipal Court. Penal Code 22.01(a)(2) makes it a Class C misdemeanor to intentionally or knowingly threaten another person with imminent bodily injury. 22.01(a)(3) makes it a Class C misdemeanor to cause physical contact when you know or should know the other person will find it offensive or provocative — the “assault by contact” charge that covers a shove, a poke, a grab. Penal Code 42.01, disorderly conduct, covers abusive language, threatening gestures, fighting, and unreasonable noise. City ordinance violations round out the docket.
Under 45.051, the judge at Pasadena Municipal Court can defer proceedings for up to 180 days after your plea, require a special expense fee, and attach conditions. The statute lists counseling, education programs, community service, and “any other reasonable condition” — language that gives the judge clear authority to require an anger management class and proof that you finished it. Satisfy the conditions and the case is dismissed. This is not a diversion program you apply to; it is a sentencing tool the judge controls, and showing up prepared for it is the whole game. See the court profile above for how Pasadena Municipal Court handles the request itself. The part that is the same in every Harris County courtroom: the judge sets the condition, and you are responsible for satisfying and documenting it before the deferral runs out.
Family-violence designations. If your Pasadena Municipal Court complaint carries a family-violence notation, the court’s deferral options narrow and the consequences of a conviction grow. Confirm eligibility with your attorney before you plan on a deferral — and enroll anyway, because a completed program helps in every version of that conversation.
Two Ways Into the Program, One Way Out of the Case
The Proactive Enrollment
Nothing in Texas law requires you to wait for an order. Our founder spent fifteen years as a defense lawyer and public defender, and the tactic he used most often was simple: get the client into a program before the first appearance and hand the court proof. A judge at Pasadena Municipal Court looking at an enrollment letter sees a defendant who has already accepted a reasonable condition. Prosecutors see a case that can close. You see the fastest route to a deferral and a dismissal.
Satisfy the Condition Exactly
A court order is a set of instructions, and the safest way to satisfy it is to follow it precisely. Our intake session reviews your Pasadena Municipal Court order, identifies the required length and any specific language, and locks in a schedule that beats the deferral deadline. Because the sessions are live and one on one, there are no group start dates to wait for — you can begin this week. When you finish, the Certificate of Completion and Completion Letter go to you, your attorney, and on request the court.
The court sees the same thing either way: an instructor-signed enrollment letter, verifiable progress notes, and completion documents that a Pasadena clerk can confirm by phone. Our Court Acceptance Guarantee covers both paths. Start here or text ENROLL TX to 201-205-3201.
How the Program Actually Works for Pasadena Clients
Group classes were designed for the convenience of the provider. Self-paced videos were designed for the convenience of the software. We designed this program for the convenience of the person with a court date in Pasadena — and for the judge who has to decide whether the program meant anything. Sessions are live, on video, one instructor and one client. They are available every day of the week, at hours that work for people who cannot take a Tuesday afternoon off. And they are paired with written lessons customized to your case, so that by the time you finish, you have a documented curriculum and a documented set of conversations about it.
Because there is no group, there is no start date to wait for and no session a Pasadena client can miss because the cohort moved on. If you need to finish a twelve-session program in five weeks to beat a deferral deadline, we schedule it. If you need to spread eight sessions across three months of shift work, we schedule that too.

Program Lengths We Build for Pasadena Municipal Court Orders
Orders from Pasadena Municipal Court are sometimes written in hours, sometimes in sessions, and sometimes as a bare “proof of completion.” Send us a photo by text and we will match the program to it. For a statewide view, see court-ordered anger management in Texas.
Proof That Holds Up at Pasadena Municipal Court
We think about documentation the way a defense lawyer does, because our founder was one. The enrollment letter exists so you have something to hand up at your first appearance at Pasadena Municipal Court. Progress documentation exists so a prosecutor or judge who wants to check on you mid-deferral can. The Certificate of Completion and Completion Letter exist so the dismissal is a formality — dates, hours, sessions, curriculum, attendance, instructor signature, and a verification number, all on one page each.
We are careful about the details that get certificates questioned: the defendant’s name exactly as it appears on the citation, the total sessions and hours, the date range, the curriculum, and a statement that sessions were live and individual. Our documents have never been denied by a court since 2012, and our Court Acceptance Guarantee refunds your fee in full if Pasadena Municipal Court refuses them.
100% Five-Star. Not Most. All.
Every review NJAMG has received on Google is five stars. These are people who came in with a court date — the same position as anyone facing Pasadena Municipal Court today — and left with a dismissal and, by their own account, something more.

“I had a great experience completing my 8 anger management sessions with this program. The director was understanding, professional, and very easy to communicate with. I was able to openly discuss my situation without feeling judged, and their guidance really helped me work through everything and communicate more effectively. NATIONWIDE
ALL 50 STATES
From Jersey City to Pasadena: One Program, Every Court
NJAMG started in New Jersey in 2012 and now works with clients in every state. The founder, Santo V. Artusa Jr., J.D., C.A.M.T., spent fifteen years as a New Jersey criminal defense lawyer, public defender, and family-law mediator — recognized in Best Lawyers in America — before retiring from practice to teach this program himself. That courtroom background is why the enrollment letters and completion documents read the way a judge wants them to, whether the judge sits in Hudson County or Harris County.
Because the format does not depend on geography, the program serves all fifty states. Because the documentation was designed by a defense lawyer, courts accept it. Since 2012, none has refused. Started in New Jersey, serving America, and available to anyone with a case in Harris County today.

Pasadena Municipal Court Anger Management: Questions We Get From Pasadena Clients
Is this counseling or therapy?
No. NJAMG is a psychoeducational program built on REBT and CBT methods — skills, not treatment. It is not psychotherapy, counseling, or medical or mental health care, and it is not legal advice. It is the kind of instructor-led course judges at Pasadena Municipal Court and other Texas municipal courts have in mind when they attach an anger management condition to a deferral.
How many sessions will a Pasadena judge require?
There is no fixed number in the statute. For a first Class C assault-by-contact or disorderly-conduct deferral at Pasadena Municipal Court, eight sessions is the most common order, four is common for minor disorderly conduct, and twelve or more appears in repeat or family-related cases. If you already have an order, text us a photo and we build the program to match it. If you do not, we recommend a length a Harris County judge is likely to accept.
What is deferred disposition, exactly?
Deferred disposition under Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 45.051 lets a municipal judge accept your guilty or no-contest plea, hold off on entering a judgment for up to 180 days, impose conditions such as a class or counseling, and dismiss the case once you comply. No conviction is entered at Pasadena Municipal Court. Pasadena publishes a Request for Deferred Disposition form for offenses committed on or after September 1, 2019, and the judge sets the conditions.
How fast can I finish?
As fast as your deadline requires. Because sessions are one on one and available seven days a week, a four-session program can be completed in under two weeks and an eight-session program in three to five. If your Pasadena Municipal Court deferral clock is short, tell us at intake and we schedule accordingly.
I was defending myself. Why would I take anger management?
Because completing the program is not an admission — it is the condition the judge is most likely to attach to a deferred disposition, and satisfying it is the fastest path to a dismissal. Our sessions are one on one, so a self-defense case from Pasadena is handled as a self-defense case: de-escalation, documentation, and staying on the right side of Texas assault law next time.
Does the court order the class, or do I find it myself?
In Texas the court sets the condition, and you find and pay for the program. Pasadena Municipal Court does not run its own anger management class. Your job is to enroll in a legitimate program, complete it, and file proof before the deferral ends. We handle everything after the first text.
Is NJAMG a Batterer Intervention and Prevention Program?
No. NJAMG is a psychoeducational anger management program, not a TDCJ-accredited BIPP. If your case is a Class A family-violence assault in a Harris County court at law and the judge specifically requires a BIPP, we will tell you immediately so you do not lose time. For Class C cases at Pasadena Municipal Court, an anger management class is the standard condition.
